Family-style service brings big platters and bowls to the center of each table so guests pass dishes and help themselves, the way you might at a holiday dinner. It creates a warm, communal feel.
It splits the difference between plated and buffet: guests stay seated but choose their own portions. It needs larger tables and slightly more food than a plated count, so discuss it early with your caterer.
